Hi everyone. I visited Kiev connections in Ukraine on November 8, 2004 for ten days. I met several ladies and many people both from the agency and outside the agency. I researched Ukraine and the marriage agency thing for about a year before I finally made the great leap to Ukraine from the U.S.

And I say great leap because it was my first time out of the country. I am a very successful, 37 year old businessman in Sacramento, California. But I have to say, I was rather nervous on this adventure of mine to Ukraine. I was warned by many American people and many Ukrainian people who live in my city. They told me so many bad things about being robbed by criminals and kidnappings by the Russian Mafia. I was told most of the Ukrainian women were prostitutes or just wanted my money or a free trip to America. I was also told that the food servers in restaurants, both men and women, would solicit me for prostitution after I ate my meals. I was warned about the police, the taxi drivers, and the shop keepers - they would all rip me off! I was warned that the Ukrainian women would try to marry me to kill me for my life insurance! The list goes on.....KGB...the whole nine yards.

At this point I have to say that in general Americans seem very ignorant about Ukraine. All of my experiences were very positive. I felt very safe, and all the people seemed sincere, honest, nice, and normal. I went in the subway area at 2:00 a.m., spoke with drunks, ate in restaurants, dated women, walked the streets in all different areas, etc. I even visited homeless children who lived under the streets down in the manholes! All was well! There were no bad experiences whatsoever.

If anyone wants to ask me questions about my experiences or what it is like in Ukraine, please email me at powercleanent@aol.com

Good luck! Don't let the KGB take you away! LOL :-)

Mike, you're right... Americans are sadly misinformed about Ukraine. I suppose with the election now, things might be tense... but I still wouldn't hesitate to go to Kiev. It's a fabulous city and I also walked safely at night, during the day and enjoyed the Kreuschiatic (sp?) street scene on the weekends.

I was also in Kiev from Nov 8 - 18!! Too bad we didn't meet-up, though I did meet another friend (American man) who was in Kiev to meet his fiancée also. I spent another two fabulous weeks with my fiancée! :-)

I have only good things to say about Kiev Connections' staff and owner. I had a great experience and met my fiancee through Brett's service. That was at the end of September, 2004. As I write this reply, I've already made it through the visa process and my fiancee has received "packet 3." (She only needs to gather documents, then she can interview for her visa!) Many, many thanks to Brett, Tanya and the rest of the Kiev Connections staff! :-)

Bob

Well, just from my experience, I think that's a stereotype. Certainly there are women in Kiev who expect a higher standard of living. But there are many others who have moved to Kiev for work (but grew up in other cities or villages) who are much more down-to-earth.

I think you'll even be shocked at the state of Westernization that Kiev is in. The Globus Mall is fully up to Western Standards as a mall. Khreschaltik street is like a cosmopolitan streen in the US. It's pretty amazing. But if you grew-up in Kiev, this would be your "standard" and it might be tough to go live in a village far from Kiev.

I think writing to women is a good thing. It will help establish who you are. But don't write for too long and just *GO*!!! :-) Honestly, I signed-up for the Matchmaking Service from Kiev Connections, then I wrote an introductory letter. The women I selected (10 women) all received my letter and photos. Of those 10, 5 agreed to meet with me. On paper, I thought I would be interested in all 5, but personalities don't come through on paper and, as it turns out, I was really only "really connected" with one woman. She is now my fiancée. :-)

Mike, consider using the Matchmaking service. Certainly writing to know the women better is a good thing too... but there's nothing quite like "face-to-face" time.

Good luck!

Bob
